Wednesday: What I’m Reading

On Wednesdays, I vow to inconsistently list some good books I’ve recently read.

Journey of Dreams

This week, I have to mention Journey of Dreams by Marge Pellegrino. Someone just drew my attention to this book last week, and I couldn’t believe I hadn’t heard of it before. This book has much in common with Caminar: the setting, the time period, the topic, and a journey. But there are many differences too: it’s not in verse, the main character is a girl, and her journey takes her out of Guatemala for refuge. This is a well-told story, rich in detail. The author tackled many aspects of the conflict that I didn’t in my story. The characters are complex and lovable; you’ll root for them right away. I can’t recommend this story enough. If you read Caminar and would like to learn more—
Go forth and find this book.
