On Wednesdays, I vow to inconsistently list some good books I’ve recently read.
This week, I have to mention The Meaning of Maggie by Megan Jean Sovern.
In general, I think book trailers are often pretty lame. This is the first time I’ve read a book because I fell in the love with the trailer—
I know it’s early to be calling my favorite book of 2014, but I’m calling it. This is a delightful character (truly a young Leslie Knope, if you’re a Parks and Rec fan) who is processing what is happening with her father. (He has multiple sclerosis.) If you’re looking for how the voice of a character can carry a story, look no further. If you’re a kid, looking for a good read, here it is. If you’re an adult or an older teen, wondering what it would be like to write a memoir about the year you turned eleven, look no further. If you are any age and enjoy the kind of humor that we find in books where the main character is funny without realizing it, where the mature jokes float over her head but land directly in the reader’s heart, look no further. Basically if you’re a reader of any kind—
Go forth and find this book.
