Guatemalan Monday: FAMDEGUA edition

I encourage you to take a moment to read a blog entry by the Guatemala Human Rights Commission that celebrates and honors the work that FAMDEGUA has done and is doing to search for information and justice pertaining to the many people “disappeared” in Guatemala during the internal conflict. In Caminar, Carlos searches for his mother. In Guatemala today, there are thousands of people searching for information about their loved ones. What happened to them? Where did they go? Who is responsible?

On my website I’ve posted a link to the Guatemalan Forensic Anthropology Foundation. This is an organization you can support, if you feel so inclined, to help survivors claim the remains of their loved ones.

FAMDEGUA is another organization doing difficult, brave, good work. Here’s a video that explains what they do and why it’s important. (Teachers and parents of kids under 13: you may want to preview this video yourself before you share it with them. There are some images that are tough to digest.)
