It’s National Poetry Month!

Today’s featured book is Laughing Tomatoes and Other Spring Poems by Francisco X. Alarcón, illustrated by Maya Christina Gonzalez.

I love this book. It’s a good example of how titles can be used as a poetic tool. It also shows that poems can be long or short.

Classroom Activity: Have a native Spanish speaker read aloud the poems in Spanish. Even though your students might not understand the meaning of the words, you can talk about and enjoy the sound, rhythm, and cadence that they make.
